Born in Paris, France, pianist Jacques Chanier began his carrier as a pop/rock musician in his early teens. In 1979 he came to the United States, where he spent four years studying jazz and classical composing and arranging at the Berklee College of Music. After that he went on studying jazz improvisation with Charlie Banacos .
In the meantime , he has been an active member of the Boston jazz scene: In 1995 he recorded with the Henry Cook Band (featuring drummer Bobby Ward). This CD (Accurate 5012) won the “Boston Music Awards” for that year’s “Best Jazz Recording”. They have since played at the “Boston Globe Jazz Festival”, and at the “4th Festival Internacional at San Miguel de Allende in Mexico”. In 1998 he recorded live at the “Ford Montreux Detroit Jazz Festival” with the same band (Accurate AC-5036).
In August 1999, he founded the “Jacques Chanier Trio” and later produced his CD “ Kite Flight” (LaRondeMusic 001), which received high praises from magazines such as “Down Beat Magazine”, “Cadence magazine” and many others. The Trio now performs regularly in the New England Area. They recorded live on “Eric in the Evening” ( WGBH radio-10/9/01)
In 2002 Brooke Sofferman ask him to play on his new CD “The Green Between”,(SUMMIT records-DCD 323) featuring Jerry Bergonzi.
Soon after, Accurate Records released Jacques’s second CD, “Quilt” (AC-5051. The cd is now available everywhere in the US and France, Italy, England, Ireland. Quilt was also very well received on radio. (See radio station listing) and was nominated for the “Boston Music Awards” in the Best Jazz Recording Category.
