Cocktail Hour
The ceremony is over. Your guests are arriving at the reception hall. You've
planned on having formal photos taken of everyone in the wedding. The photographer
told you it would be half an hour but you now discover that gathering everyone
together takes an hour. You are running behind schedule and you know it. You're
getting uptight because you are WORRIED about your guests.
RELAX!
You remembered the hourdevers, the bar has plenty of
stock but now you
picture all of these strangers (to each other not to you) sitting there getting
very bored. You know they are not dancing or getting into a festive spirit
to help you celebrate your wedding. You know this because YOU DID NOT HIRE
A BAND.
Remember that it is your guests for whom all this long preparation was done.
You could have been married by a JP in half an hour. You want to celebrate
with family and friends. You want the mood to be festive. You should be the
center of attention.
HIRE A SMALL GROUP TO PLAY DURING THE
COCKTAIL HOUR.
A small group is all that is needed. A good group can get the
crowd started and entertain them before you get there. A band with a good
MC will do much to heighten anticipation of your arrival and then help climax
the moment when you are introduced as Mr. & Mrs. for the very first time.
I recommend a 2 to 5 piece band. You want the band to have
enough drive behind it to get a crowd in the right frame of mind, but not
too large so that you cannot enjoy your meal without shouting.
